Why are rest days so difficult for me? I mean, I ran 18 miles yesterday, and yet, have a hard time letting myself rest and recover. I know recovery is important and necessary, but why does it seem to be so hard to do?

I think, for me anyway, it is because I don’t want to go back to the person I used to be. I started working out regularly 2-1/2 years ago and have lost close to 50 pounds during that time. I have worked so hard to get to where I am today, that I never want to go back. I was unhappy, unhealthy, and just miserable! I love who I have become…a healthy, happy, and active person.

Now, I just need to realize this…

Exactly! I EARNED today’s rest! When I think about it that way…it doesn’t seem so bad!

So, how did I spend my rest day?! Well, I slept in until 8:30 am…which felt amazing! My body definitely needed that sleep to help it recover. I made my way out to the kitchen and got a cup of coffee in my favorite cup…

and a bowl of oatmeal with raspberries. It tasted so good, as I was still hungry from yesterday’s run.

After breakfast and some time on the computer, Rob and I got around and ran some errands which included checking on a friend’s cat and getting a few groceries. We got home just as another round of thunderstorms was coming through the area. We were home long enough for me to take care of the few groceries we got and put a load of laundry in the washer, when the storm hit and knocked out our power!

At the end of June, we lost power for 44 hours due to the derecho that hit our area, and let me tell you as soon as the power went out again today, I said, “Not again!” Luckily, we were only without power for a couple of hours this time! Thank goodness!

Since we were without power for a couple of hours, it gave me some time to sit and do some reading.

I was able to make some good progress today! I am getting more and more excited about doing a triathlon the further into this book I get! Just as I was really getting into it…the power came back on…of course! Good thing though because I was getting hungry, so off to the kitchen I went.

We had stuffed green peppers for dinner tonight! We were going to make them the last couple of days, but just didn’t feel like taking the time to do so. Well, I finally decided I would make them tonight and they were delicious! We even have leftovers for dinner tomorrow night after our bike ride, as long as the weather cooperates! *Crossing my fingers*

After dinner, I realized I hadn’t talked to my mom in a while, so I decided to give her a call. We talked for almost 2 hours! It was nice to hear her voice again!

So, despite the fact that I kind of despise rest days, I would say that today was a successful rest day. Usually rest days/non-running days can be summed up like this…

Today was different though! It was nice to relax a little bit, but I am definitely ready for our bike ride tomorrow afternoon!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend, even if it was a rainy one!

Thanks for reading!
