Why do you run and why/what made you start running? Really, I want to know, as I am curious as to why other people run. For your health, to lose weight…etc.

Me? Well, I first started running for my health. I had just finished 2 rounds of Insanity and decided to run a marathon. I had done some running in high school because I had to, not because I wanted too. After Insanity, I felt like I could do anything. Why not run a marathon?! So, Rob and I trained for 3 months for our first marathon. At first I didn’t really like running, but the more I did it, the better I felt, and that made me want to run even more. I started running on July 12, 2010 and I haven’t stopped since!

I run to keep my sanity! There is nothing I love more than to go out for a run and forget about everything (at least while I am running). I run to clear my mind after a busy or stressful day. I run to sort through things, both good and bad! I run because it makes me feel alive! But, most importantly, I run because I WANT to! It makes me feel good!

Not every run is painful, but for those that are, the pain is what keeps me coming back. There is just something about it that makes me feel good, both physically and mentally. Not to mention, running has changed my life…

I remember saying before we started training for our first marathon, “I will never be a runner.”

My advice to you…never say never!

I AM a runner! And darn proud to be a runner! I wouldn’t change it for anything. Running has made my life better, made me a better person, wife, daughter, and friend.

Running has introduced me to people I never would have the privilege to know and/or meet. The running community on DailyMile is amazing, and I have been able to connect with some of them. One DailyMile friend, who I had never met personally, came up behind me during my first half-marathon and helped me finish strong and reach my goal. He recognized me from my picture on the site. He didn’t have to do that, but I am truly thankful for the support he gave me that morning. He didn’t just cheer me on, but stayed with me until we crossed that finish line. Here were are after the race…

Thanks, Ray!

That is why I run!

Speaking of running…we had another 5 mile run tonight! It was another warm afternoon, so we just took it easy and ended up with a consistent 5 miles. One would think the temperatures would be starting to cool down, but we are actually starting to warm up again. Ugh! Fall, where are you?! We still ended up with a 10:04 pace tonight, despite the heat and humidity.

We were able to get out for our run a little earlier today, so I ended up making dinner after our run tonight. I really prefer to make it before because I am usually starving after our run…like tonight. Thankfully, I already knew what I was going to make, so I didn’t have to figure it out when we got back. This is what we had for dinner tonight…

Baked Tilapia, baked potatoes with Rosemary seasoning, and some Baby California Blend. So delicious, especially after a good run! And, it didn’t take that long to make! Thank goodness! Not sure I could have waited too much longer for something to cook!

I have been able to make some good progress in the book I am reading, “Your First Triathlon” by Joe Friel, which is only adding to my excitement about doing our first triathlon. I even went and bought a new planner today, so when I get to that part of the book (which should be soon), I can start writing up a training plan for it. I know, I am crazy, but we only have 8 months, 2 weeks, and 5 days until our first Triathlon!

Thanks for reading!
