The day I started training to run my first marathon, changed my life in more ways than I ever could have imagined. And now, 3 years and 4 months later, here I am, recovering from my 4th marathon!
Speaking of recovering, today was my first run since the marathon. Considering my quads were still pretty sore, it went well. I just did what felt good at the time. I was actually surprised that my pace was as fast as it was because I felt like I was moving in slow motion. I was just happy to run today after a busy week of traveling throughout Turkey.
Here are my splits for today’s run:
Total time: 27:51 Average pace: 9:17
I was hoping for 4 miles today, but listened to my body and stopped at 3.
The best part about marathon recovery…no pressure, just run!
The worst part about marathon recovery…
Foam rolling! (And, yes, I still have my marathon timing chip on my shoe!)
It hurts so good!
My legs actually feel much better now than they did earlier. So even though it hurts like crazy to do it at that particular time, it is totally worth it later!

While we were on trip number 2, I purchased some running goodies.
I got some Under Armour cold gear! I usually don’t like to spend the money for Under Armour gear, even though I love their gear! But, I also live by the saying, “You get what you pay for!” I know I will definitely be using this cold gear here in Ankara, and probably sooner rather than later. I didn’t wear it for today’s run, but I tried it on and it is so comfortable and warm.
A few weeks ago, I mentioned trying to run with music again, but I needed new earbuds first. I found some yurbuds, which I have heard really good things about, so I decided to give them a try. These are the ones that I got.
This is what was in the box.
I ended up getting these ones because they came with 2 sizes of enhancers and I knew I would need the smaller ones. They also came with a clip and sport carry pouch.
Here are a couple of close-ups of the earbud piece.
I wore them for today’s run and I LOVED them! They are so comfortable and don’t move or fall out! I even forgot, yes, forgot, that I had them in while I was running. I definitely see me running with music more often now that I have these comfortable earbuds! I highly recommend them!
It was actually enjoyable running with some music today. Plus, it took my mind off my sore quads! 🙂
Istanbul trip and marathon recap coming soon!
